Toy rockets are toys basically under the space age and science fiction toy category but collecting toy rockets should not limit you from collecting rockets only.
Toy rockets have been a regular staple in boys’ toy boxes for ages and it is seldom that you will find a boy – or a man – who has never had or played with a toy rocket. Different Kinds of Toy Rockets
The fascination of man to the idea of life and travel in outer space played as the primary reason for the manufacture of toy rockets. These toys come in various shapes and sizes. - Action rockets that can be assembled and disassembled, with moving parts and different accessories
- Model toy rockets
Toy rockets for toddlers or young children are typically made of hard plastics and do not often come with small parts and accessories that can be swallowed. These are made for rough play and typical wear and tear allowing them to outlast other toy rockets. These are created to survive a toddler’s concept of “play.”
These children’s toy rockets are typically more expensive because of the materials used. Prices may range from 30 to 50 US dollars. Moreover, they are generally more colorful since they are basically made to catch the attention of babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. This makes these toy rockets natural stand-outs in a toy collection. Meanwhile, those in the second category are made for older children who already know how to play properly.
Action rockets normally come with various accessories such as launching pads, armory, skeletal grid structure, stickers and even astronauts that make playing it more exciting and valuable. Some even come with multiple toy rockets and extra units such as satellites and missiles, among others.
Because it has small parts and accessories, they are not advisable for younger children. However, action rockets make for a wider variety because there are a lot of toy manufacturers that target the 10-12 year-old bracket. Typically, these rockets are made to move. Some toy rockets under this category can be actually launched via a fixed mechanism typically placed in the toy’s launching pad.
It would be best not to expect that much detail in action rockets because they are made in a simple manner so that it can be launched more easily. These toy rockets are not very expensive and you are likely to get a couple of good units from a toy sale.
The last category is for much older kids, teenagers and adults who have a penchant for building and assembling. Model rockets normally come in kits which you can assemble on your own. These are normally scaled models of real rockets created and used by the US defense forces and astronomical department.
Model rockets are typically very attractive and can add value to anyone’s toy collection. These are normally very detailed. Although model rockets are still cheaper than rockets for youngsters, they are considered more challenging because one still needs to manually assemble them.
